London’s Royal Albert Hall was packed with the great and the good of the fashion world for one of the most monumental nights in the fashion calendar!
From chic to utmost elegant designs, this year’s British Fashion Awards, once again, saw a stellar turn-out. On Monday, December 4, not only major fashion icons such as Giorgio Armani and Donatella Versace could be seen on the red carpet, but other celebrities, equally recognized by their true sense of style attended the event as well. Among these, we could find Rihanna, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Naomi Campbell, Julia Roberts, Miguel, Nicholas Hoult, and many more.
British Fashion Awards, an annual event since 1986, has long since been a hallmark in the fashion calendar. This year, the event was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which is an iconic venue in the United Kingdom built in the year of 1871, and it is one of the most distinctive and treasured buildings in the country. The hall and its grandiosity cannot really disappoint – same as this year’s show!
When it comes to the awards given this year, we must admit, they were all fully deserved. Winners were announced in different categories, making the show as interesting as ever before.
The award for the brand of the year, after going into Gucci’s hands last year, was given to Bottega Veneta. The brand, founded in 1966 in Vicenza, Veneto, is an Italian high fashion and luxury good brands. Daniel Lee, the Creative Director at Bottega Veneta, went home with all four awards he was nominated for such as Womenswear Designer of the Year, Designer of the Year, Accessories Designer of the Year and the already mentioned – Designer of the Year.
Another influential person who marked the show is Rihanna, a winner of the Urban Luxe category with her brand named “Fenty”. Since the very beginning, Rihanna kept diversity in the collections, the sizes as well as the prices.
There also was a special tribute to Karl Lagerfeld during the show, the German fashion designer, photographer, and artist who died on February 19, 2019. Lady Amanda Harlech and Dame Anna Wintour presented the tribute.
The award for Business Leader this year went to Remo Ruffini for Moncler after going to the hands of Marco Bizzarri for Gucci in 2018. Naomi Campbell was announced as Fashion Icon. Sir Jony Ive presented the award. In the category for Outstanding Achievement, the winning spot was given to Giorgio Armani, presented by Cate Blanchett and Julia Roberts.
Just like any other year, the 2019 British Awards was an admirably perfect and purposeful event that featured many remarkable artists getting the recognition they deserve. As mentioned, already-known and new emerging faces in the fashion industry attended the event and walked the red carpet wearing stunning creations. Multiple glamorous fashion trends such as tulle dresses, silk tuxedos, and elevator shoes were cemented this year clearly pointing out they are not going anywhere near time soon.
The Italian brand GuidoMaggi, one of the leading companies in the industry, saw this coming. The elevator shoes are and have been the secret of success of many celebrities like Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr, so there is no wonder why they were the favourite shoe choice this year as well. Needless to say, the British Fashion Awards was an amazing show, and we cannot help but imagine the wonderful things next year will bring!
